Each day as bits and pieces of dry wall, bead board, plaster, tile and paneling are stripped away, more and more history is revealed about the Haywood House. The discovery today was that Haywood House has had multiple renovations and additions. This is not the first time! We learned of something done around 1974. From the findings, apparently there was an earlier rehab. It is estimated by the looks of the wiring and bead board, the earlier rehab occurred in the fifties. The entire right side facing was an addition. This revealed that current existing interior walls were at some point, exterior walls. The most interesting evidence is a towel bar mounted on what was formerly the outside of the house. (Outdoor bathing, perhaps!)
Another change today was in the den/library. Most of the wall shelves were badly deteriorated and beyond repair. The room opened up to a great and bright space without the heavy dark paneling and shelves.
Bids have been put out for plumbing, heating and air conditioning, electrical, and painting. More later to follow.
